The Scammell, Mechanical Horse Fire Engine
wp265e0217.png
Restoration work has commenced on the 1938 Scammell Mechanical Horse, Fire Engine, one of the first appliances to be acquired by the trust in 1982, it was rescued from a farm hedge in Wilstead, Bedfordshire.
At the time its condition was assessed as poor, and now 23 years later remedial work has been started to asses the  condition of the chassis, and strengthen structural parts where serious corrosion has taken place.  It is one of only three known survivors of this type of pre-war appliance, and the only one with a crew cab.
